SPEAKER: Elif Batuman
About the Speakers
Elif Batuman’s first novel, The Idiot, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and for the Women’s Prize. She is also the author of The Possessed: Adventures with Russian Books and the People Who Read Them. She has been a staff writer at the New Yorker since 2010, and holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Stanford University. Her second novel, Either/Or, was published in 2022.
Beth Blum teaches modern and contemporary literature at Harvard University, where she is the Harris K. Weston Associate Professor of the Humanities in the Department of English. Her book, The Self-Help Compulsion: Searching for Advice in Modern Literature was published in 2020 with Columbia University Press.
